Journeys

During our travels to Europe, I have been extremely fortunate to see and experience culture, community and timeless architecture. The beauty, serenity and warmth I have felt in the homes and structures of the European people are a byproduct of an ever-changing history. Communities have experienced wars and conflicts that have influenced the lives of the people. These wars and conflicts have also influenced the way homes have been built, and rebuilt, in centuries past. From their communities sprouted artisans and craftsmen. They took pride in the works they created with the use of tools that were forged and handmade. Every community I have visited has presented evidence of deep thought and contemplation for doing the best with what was available.

We have experienced the waking of the day to the call of doves and the settling of the evening in the little burgs and communities of Europe. We have enjoyed their love of family and their appreciation for the little things in life. We have watched grandmas on bicycles make their way to market in the mist of the early morning. We have seen merchants selling their goods from storefronts that have been there for 300-400 years. Most of the families have lived in homes that were homes of distant relatives or people of medieval times.

Euro World Design brings to you samples of details and ideas I have found to be very timeless. They stimulate your emotions and fantasies and add to the comforts of your place—the place you call “home.” I am always looking forward to the next project and hoping our design will have elements that will stimulate the artisans and craftsmen to do and become the very best. Today some hand tools have been replaced with machines, but the pride and willingness to step back in time and recreate elegance is seen in the eyes of those who work on our Euro World Homes.

Some of the reasons we enjoy European, Old World, French Country, or Country French architecture are hidden in their histories. All are by-products of rebuilding and remodeling after wars and conflicts. A lot of the structures were added on to, rebuilt and repaired after the destructive forces of war. As a result, you see a lot of shed roofs, change in materials, evidence of new craftsmen and new shapes that tease the eye and make the design more interesting. Our homes incorporate all of these elements. I have found them to increase and enhance the character of the home, making it desirable for many years to come, just like their prototypes in Old World communities.

In our travels we have discovered the people who live in these “timeless” wonders have a different outlook and respect for life and their historical architecture. They are very proud of their homes and enjoy the simplicity of the spaces. The comfort I experience when visiting and/or staying in an Old World home moves me and plays on my emotions. I enjoy being a student of the elements of design that help make their homes desirable, comfortable, and, above all, what subconsciously seems to pull their families together. If you have experienced this, you know what I mean. If you have not, we challenge you to take a trip and slip deep into one of the little communities. Whether it be a fishing village in Normandy or a vineyard community in Tuscany, you will find yourself wanting to bring a little of that back with you.
